Classes
There are five classes (or professions). You choose one when you create your character; it is your base class. You learn its skills and spells from your guildmaster with practice - see Guilds. In the game, help <class> tells you more, and describe <spell> explains a spell.
Cleric #
Clerics have an ancient belief in not carrying sharp weapons, so they can only wield bludgeoning weapons. This class gives you the wisdom of peace, blessing and healing, though it is possible to learn more violent spells. Their best-known class item is the holy cleric's staff.
Druid #
The class of magic that deals with nature. Druids can shapechange into animals - from a mouse at level 3 to a snake, bat, falcon, shark, lion and wolf, up to a bear at level 38 - and grow stronger close to nature. In animal form they cannot use most of their equipment.
Mage #
The class of powerful and violent magic. Useful cantrips such as invisibility or fly can be found here, too. Their best-known class item is the mana wand.
Thief #
Thieves have very special qualities that no other class offers, and many of them come in handy, such as picking locks. Once they learn backstab and knockout, they are deadly. Their best-known class item is the thieves' dirk.
Warrior #
Warriors have more strength than the average player. This makes them better at hand-to-hand combat: their skills of violence and fighting are unequalled by any other class. However, they cannot use magic of any sort - they need to subclass to learn spells. The warriors' shop sells a two-handed sword with some special powers.
Subclassing (multi-classing) #
Once you have mastered your class, you can learn other classes too:
- Master your class: learn the skills and spells of your class to a certain average percentage.
- Prove yourself: get a class change quest at a questmaster with
receive classchangequest, and solve five such random quests in a row without a failure. - Choose: seek out the mighty tree Ygdrasil and, at its feet,
become <class>.
You can never become as good in a subclass as someone who has it as their base class, and class specials - such as a thief's peek into other people's inventories - do not come with a subclass.
